2. Opal Lake

Opal Lake sits in a headwater basin of Opal Creek, once surrounded by a splendid stand of colossal Douglas-fir, western hemlock, noble fir, and Alaska-cedar. The Beachie Fire roared through this area on Labor Day 2020 killing most trees. The trail will not be cleared and reopened for several years yet, and it is doubtful that any substantial amount of old growth remains along this trail.
