39. Joe Goddards Grove

A half-mile loop trail (3690) circles a small fragment of old growth known as Joe Goddards Grove containing some of the largest and oldest (450-700 years old) trees in the Willamette National Forest. Three Douglas-fir more than 100 inches in diameter stand in close proximity to one another, and impressive western redcedar and Pacific yew stand nearby. Although the Cedar Creek Fire (2022) burned through the grove, initial reports indicate that most of the giants survived. However, the bridge over Black Creek accessing the trail was broken by a falling tree and it will likely take several years to replace and reopen the trail.
